A sudden noise, too much light, a sudden movement, all these trigger your baby to kick. It shows how well your baby is managing the changes inside and outside your womb. Your baby kicks are well noticed when you are 26 weeks pregnant.
After a meal
Your baby makes more movements after a meal. Once food reaches your stomach there is a change that occurs inside your abdomen that triggers kicking. 9th week- The amazing feeling
This is when your baby starts to move within your womb, but you start to realize it only during 18 or 19 week of pregnancy. You have to be very alert to notice these movements. An ultrasound can help you better in detecting the baby movements. Many new mothers miss their child’s first kick; they mistake it for a wave or flutter in the abdomen. But if you are pregnant for the second time you will be more alert and will start feeling the kicks as early as 13 weeks.
Lie on your left side and get kicked more
When you lie on your left side the blood supply to the foetus increases. This will increase your baby’s movements and you will notice that your bundle of joy is frequently kicking and moving around.

Baby in distress
After your 26th week of pregnancy you may be asked by your doctor to monitor your baby’s kicks periodically. It is said you must be able to notice at least ten kicks in a day. Reduced baby movements could be a sign that your baby is not getting enough oxygen supply.
It can also indicate that there is a drop in your sugar levels. Incase you do not find any movements have some food immediately and see if you notice any movements. You can also drink some cold water or take a walk to see if you can feel any movements. If you do not notice any movements go take an ultrasound to check the fetal heart beat. Also check what the cause of inactivity was. Incase of any emergency the doctor might ask for an early delivery.
Less kicks are alarming
You should monitor fetal movements promptly. If incase for an hour you do not feel any movements you need to see the doctor or go for an ultrasound immediately. A normal healthy baby kicks around 15-20 times a day. If kicks reduce it might be because the fetus is not getting sufficient oxygen. It does not mean if a baby kicking less often is a quiet or reserved person, it just tells you the baby must be in danger. Fetal movements can also reduce due to drop in sugar levels.

Prenatal exercises and yoga
Mothers-to-be who engage themselves in yoga and other prenatal exercises my find their babies kick a little lesser than normal. The exercises result in physiological signs of relaxation in the mother like lowered heart rate, respiration rate and skin conductance. This in turn lowers the baby’s heart rate too.
Fetal movement and future behavior
